Breastfed Babies Naturally Heal Faster and Are Brighter

I breastfed all my babies, which I am sure is the only reason they are so healthy, bright and beautiful! Seriously, though a new study has just come out which finds that breastfed babies naturally heal faster and are brighter. The health benefits of breastfeeding babies has been around for ages, although, more and more media encourages women to choose the freedom of bottle feeding. I understand that there are many situations in which a mother may not be able to breastfeed her baby, however, I am a firm believer that whenever possible breastfeeding your baby is the healthiest option for both the mother and child.

Breastfed babies are happy babies!

The results of a recent study suggest that babies that are breastfed become brighter children. What was quite amazing was that just 4 weeks worth of breast feeding of a new born had a significant impact on the child’s level of brain development later on in childhood. The benefits even go on to secondary education and further.

Researchers from Oxford University and the University of Essex Institute for Social and Economic Research realised that in tests of mathematics, reading and writing, the children who were breast fed did much better than their peers who were formula fed. The tests were carried out on children aged 5, 7, 11 and 14.

In the breast feeding charts, Britain has one of the lowest percentages and that is despite the MHS recommending that mothers should breast feed for the baby’s first 6 months rather than put them on formula. Of all one week old babies in Britain only 35% are fed exclusively on breast milk. By the time the child is 6 weeks old that percentage has fallen to 21% and at 4 months of age it is 7% and finally 3% at six months age. Article Here
